Mothercare - Improving the instore CX with POS

Posted by Sarah Davis on Jun 10, 2019 2:32:08 PM

Looking to enhance the shopper experience in store, Mothercare asked for our help to revamp their suite of instore POS.

Existing POS was inconsistent around the store, with lots of different messages all competing for attention. The plan was to create something much more simplistic, with a premium feel that wouldn’t distract the shopper eye from the products on display.

Our client also highlighted an issue with their hanging product information and price tags used on products such as pushchairs, buggies and car seats. The tags were attached to the product with a tag gun which risked damage to the product displayed, so they asked to find a suitable alternative.

We worked with Mothercare on the redesign of a complete suite of POS including navigational signage, display headers, product backdrops and arm tags. New ‘Pac-Man’ style POS were created to draw shopper attention to special buys or deals in store.

We also designed a brand-new plastic wallet for product and price information that could be hung from products without the risk of causing damage. These wallets were uniquely designed specifically for their purpose in Mothercare stores and featured interchangeable slip pockets to make it easy for store staff to change price points and product information quickly.

The new POS was trialled in 2 of their stores to determine the response from customers before being rolled out across all 78 retail stores.

Proving a great success, Mothercare’s new-look POS can be found in a store near you!

“SMP’s support for the trial has been faultless. Everything was in store on time and well packed. Communication with the store team and head office was great, giving them reassurance and peace of mind”. – Mothercare

Here's the feedback we received from the trial stores...

Northampton store

"The impact has been huge! Customer service has improved as our in store team are engaging with the customers to give them the information that was lost in the old POS! This helps us build the rapport we need to close the sale with our customers!

The new pac mans for promos have been a game changer they make the promos look so strong but are so quick to implement!"

Greenwich store

"My store looks tidier, neater and less cluttered and products are highlighted and clearer to the customer.

We have also had less damage from Tag guns to the display product which means I am able to get a higher price for ex display lines."
